Coming Soon 2015 \\

Wow I can't even believe that 2014 is almost over!
I'm happy to start fresh
and also a little sad.
I seriously don't know where the time went?
I feel like it just flew by.
Anybody else feeling that way?

In 2014 I had a laundry list of things
 I wanted to accomplish.

I did complete some,
while others were tossed
 to the back burner.
I can now say this year
I am going to finish my list!

I invite you to follow me on this journey.
 It’s going to be tough,
but anything that isn't a little tough
is almost not even worth it right?!

Drum roll please....

Live healthier
I know I am one of the hundreds of women trying to achieve this goal this year.
But by healthier I mean overall healthier;
spiritually, mentally, and physically.

I can admit I am terrible with my money.
So careless to say the least.
This year I am really going to work on being more financially sound.

Be Present
I have already been working on this and it is a struggle!
What I mean is be in the moment
 just enjoy the moment.
Sometimes being in the moment
better than capturing the memory.

Design More
I have a huge book of sketches just waiting to be sewn.
I am determined to show you out there my designs and my style!

Blog Better
This whole new world of blogging is very new to me and I am learning as I go.
I really am excited to see where this journey takes me!

Wishing all you of you an amazing New Year!

Winter Florals \\

First let me just say Happy Monday!
I hope y’all had an amazing Holiday.
Filled with delicious food
and quality time with the ones you love.
I had such a great holiday.
It was sad to leave Michigan,
but I felt completely blessed the past few days.

A week or two ago I was contacted by eShakti clothing.
I was completely flattered
and really excited to see what they had to offer.

I immediately fell in love with two skirts,
a pink one
(no surprise there)
 and a blue one.
After much debate  I decided on the blue one.

Shirt (my design) Skirt eShakti  Shoes Stuart Weitzman Clutch Akira (old)

The whole concept of this site is amazing.
The size option is great from 0-36W
(I mean that is blowing my mind)

You have the option to pick your length,
add pockets (depending on design)
and add your length.

When filling out your size info you also get to put your height in
this is great because being so short
it is really hard to wear something right off the rack!

Overall the whole process was very easy
and I am completely satisfied with how this garment turned out!

I encourage you to check out the site
and invest in something timeless, modern, or boho.
Trust me it is worth your while!

* Thank you eShakti for sponsoring this post*

Feeling Sporty \\

Happy Wednesday!

Halfway through the week and it feels so nice.

I bought this dress from Target
I instantly fell in love with it.
It’s so hard to go into target and not find something I don’t love.
The curse of Target I say...

The best 3 three things about this dress are...
1. I was able to wear it right away (I didn't have to hem it-bonus)
2. I knew in my head right off the bat multiple ways to style it!
3. When your find something like that it is so worth the 20 bucks.

I also love the idea of styling an item multiple ways
so that is what I decided to do with this dress.
You may have seen here.
I styled it with my favorite Hunter Boots
hot pink scarf,
and of course this super cute umbrella.

Today I was feeling a little sporty,
I really like the idea of a leather hat,
(its on sale now!)
varsity jacket (sold out) but I like
 this one and this one
and of course my converse.

It was a perfect outfit for when I had to run errands
at Target.

Pink Wellie Type of Day \\

Happy Wednesday!!
Just think we are halfway through the week.

The city has been raining, snowing, and grey all week long so far.
I hope your week has been a little brighter.

With all this grey
I was so happy that I purchased these HunterPink Wellies last year.
They made me so happy in the store,
I just knew they would make a rainy grey day that much brighter!

Feeling Grey \\

I know monochromatic is a trend not for the faint of heart.
But I love the way it looks,
especially in jewel tones and of course the ever classic black.
Last month I bought some grey jeans,
I really liked the fit and I originally was going to pair them with some plaid,
then I thought why not all grey?!
It’s a risk, a big one I know.
(my inner fashion goddess told me to do it)
I'm okay with it because it pushed me out of my comfort zone.
I'm excited to try more of these looks.
Have you ever tried a monochromatic look?

Faux Fur \\

Living in Chicago I realized that burrrr it gets really cold around here!
I mean you would think I would know this from last year,
but oh dream on Jessica dream on…

It’s only November and yet twice this week I have reached for my lovely fur snoods.
Once I learned how they were made I decided to make a more than I needed.
(Tutorial coming soon)!!
I could have stopped with the basic black and neutral,
but then I found the faux fur section and I melted.
(Excessive I know, but I plan on giving a few away)

A fur snood really dresses up a casual outfit,
and instantly makes me feel a little more chic!
They seem to have made a comeback with me this week,
maybe the chicness of them
or the fact that it’s a great 32 degrees here in the windy city.

Wishing you a very warm Wednesday.

Mixing Textiles \\

The reason I started this blog was to show my personal style.
It is my mission, I said so myself!
Bear with me since some of these shots are not the best,
but not every shot is going to be perfect.
Just like with designing not every stitch is going to be perfect.
It takes 10,000 or more hours to perfect something they say.
I used to roam around a fabric store just thinking of all the beautiful garments
I could make if I only knew how.

For a long time I sent my designs out
and decided I didn't want to do that anymore,
so I bought a sewing machine and just started to sew.
This faux fur snood was something I wanted to make,
and I didn't want to break the bank either.
There is something about a faux fur snood I love,
so versatile and surprisingly warm.
When making your own clothing you tend to love the item just a little bit more.
Case in point this snood, I love it.

Styling a Blanket Scarf 3 Ways \\

I love scarves; anyone who knows me would tell you the same.
I own close to about 80.
Excessive I know, but I love how they can just transform even the basic White-T into something more!
The blanket scarf is huge right now but I have been wearing these oversized ones for awhile now. This particular one I made and absolutely love the material.
It’s a warm lush flannel and the pattern just reminds me of Ireland.
I have also seen so many tutorials floating around showing you ways to style this amazing scarf! Depending on your height,
(this truly makes a huge difference to how it looks on you)
this scarf has endless possibilities.
Being short I have figured out many ways to style it
and I’m not particularly fond of one over the other;
but I love the possibilities it has!
I decided to show you my favorite 3 ways,
let me know which one your favorite is!

Way #1 and a strong contender! An everyday wear just casually thrown on!

Way #2 making almost 5 feet of fabric seem like nothing.

Way #3 a little knotted up.

Diamonds \\ Wellies

On Saturday it rained. Chicago get it together!!
At first, I was very upset because as much as I love the rain I don't like it when it rains on my day off.
Then I wasn't too upset anymore because it just meant I got to wear Wellies!
It also happened to be Sweetest Day too, I forgot about that random holiday.
Dropped the ball and was a very bad girlfriend. Whoops...
Needless to say I was spoiled that day; flowers, lunch and shopping! I mean it doesn't get any better than that J
Lunch was amazing as meals normally are when you are in good company!
The food was delicious and if you haven't been to P.F Changs you should get over there.
Amazing food those chef’s cook over there,
and they have wonderful options for those with special dietary needs.
I wasn't really in the mood for anything particular since
I didn't really want to dip into next month’s budget.
That being said, of course I would find something that I absolutely loved.
I believe my boyfriends exact words were, “I have never seen you more mesmerized with anything, you don't even look at me that way”. I guess clothes have that effect on me
 & as for the item…
Stay tuned I'll be posting it later this week.

Floppy Hats \\ Cozy Knits \\ & A Plaid Scarf Kind Of Day

It has rained all week long, and it's only Wednesday!!!
I wanted to have this amazing shoot with leaves,
and the thoughts in my head had this adorable photo shoot.
Instead, I apologize in advance for my home photoshoot I do hope you enjoy the photos!
I may be a little behind on this whole ‘Boho Chic’ vibe,
I guess it just was never ‘my personal style’.
That being said there is something about a floppy hat that instantly makes me feel like I can somehow pull this look off.
I own about four floppy hats (I know I'm crazy) and this is one I just picked up at Target!
I am always finding the best things there, and can always count on having a few extra dollars in my wallet after I shop there.
So thank you Target, for making me feel a little Boho Chic on this rainy Wednesday.

Pumpkin Patchin' \\

Ahhh Saturday’s; how much I love thee… Not having to set an alarm, sipping on tea and figuring out what to do with my day. Well this Saturday was supposed to be just that until my alarm threw it all out the window! Uggg Technology… Anyway, I surely didn't let it ruin my day, because I ladies like to seize the day and boy I did just that!! But first things first. What to wear?

I, (well) we went to a pumpkin patch, because its fall and no matter what your age you should go and pick a pumpkin the old fashioned way. Have some hot cider, and maybe an affy tapple or two (because they are free calories I swear) and enjoy the beauty of the good outdoors!

Living in the city we have to drive a way just to get to the nearest pumpkin patch. But I have an amazing boyfriend, who wanted nothing more than to spend his Saturday morning at a pumpkin patch with me! So we went pumpkin patch picking and I swear I felt like a kid in a candy store!

I hope you enjoyed your Saturday as much as I did!

My Petite Closet

I was walking through the city of Chicago the other day headphones in, music off (yes, I do this sometimes) Starbucks in hand and the whole walk got me thinking.  I’m not one to people watch, but lately I can't help but admire how beautiful Chicago really is. So let me quote mean girls when I say “you're like really pretty” I mean this city is “like really pretty”, the people, the architecture and most of all, the clothing. The streets of the city will always be my favorite runway. Having two main fashion avenues; the Magnificent Mile and State Street can really make any girl swoon. It has everything from Chanel to Forever 21. But don't get me wrong down every turn; a boutique is dying to be discovered! Chicago really has everything.

Growing up I always wanted to have the best clothing; however, attending private school made that hard. I did show my unique style through my shoes. I can even remember one year I had saddle shoes. Yes, I had style even at such a young age. In high school everything changed, I attended a public academy and you would think I would showcase my style there. Nope, instead I went with the in crowd and bought everything that had a brand name attached to it. Big mistake, but you live and you learn right!

But really… What is my point to all of this?
 I think Oscar de la Renta said it best. "Fashion is what you get four times a year; STYLE is what you pick out of that fashion". How brilliant is that?  I wish I had heard that quote as a teenager. It would have saved years roaming around trying to figure out what was “in” instead of figuring out if I even liked it.  And more importantly, it would have sent me searching for something eternally more desirable than fashion; personal style. Fashion comes and goes, and then comes again and goes again, but when you wear something that is truly you, it's no longer fashion. Its style;
and becomes your own personal style. You shine and have a certain 'je ne sais quoi' about you that can't be taken away. If this is a style that compliments your body type, well that is never going to go out of style.

And personal style goes beyond clothes.  It lives in the way you plan on decorating your humble abode, how you fix your locks, and what great accessory to complete your outfit. So here we are; I didn't want a fashion blog but merely something to showcase my style. And showcasing that style is my mission. Styling every aspect of my petite life.

Welcome to the blog.  Stick around…it gets good.
